I'm gonna start using this in my life...jk...or am I?

A lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court Monday against St. Anne Catholic School. The suit claims that an English-only policy "created and continues to promote racial and national origin discrimination."

The suit was filed by four Wichita families including Mike and Clara Silva whose 11-year-old son was kicked out of school last fall for refusing to sign a pledge saying that he would not speak Spanish in school.

Adam Silva is a United States citizen whose first language is English.

The school says the policy was created to prevent bullying.

"What he and some of his friends were doing was using the Spanish language to make derogatory statements against other students," says Wichita Catholic Diocese spokesperson Fred Solis.

Mike and Clara Silva say that's not true. They say they were never told of any discipline issues with their son.

"There are families who feel unwanted-treated different. Their children are harassed and they continue to feel afraid. They are afraid everyday they're going to be asked to leave like Adam," says Clara Silva.

The school disagrees and says Adam was not asked to leave. It says he was transferred at the request of the Silvas.

The families are seeking an order barring the English-only policy, damages for emotional suffering, plus all attorney fees.

Spike Lee accuses Clint Eastwood of erasing black GIs from history

Leading African-American director condemns fellow film-maker’s failure to portray role of hundreds of black soldiers at Iwo Jima

Spike Lee launched a bitter attack on Clint Eastwood yesterday, condemning his failure to include a single African-American soldier in his films about the Battle of Iwo Jima.

The Oscar-nominated African-American director, one of the most influential figures in contemporary cinema, said that black soldiers were conspicuous by their absence from Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima. Hundreds took part in the battle for the Japanese island in 1945.

Lee said: “There were many African-Americans who survived that war and who were upset at Clint for not having one [in the films]. That was his version: the negro soldier did not exist. I have a different version.”

Miracle at St Anna is an epic story about members of the all-black 92nd Buffalo Division, which fought the Germans in Italy.

While refraining from using the word “racist”, Lee said that rewriting Second World War history was typical of Hollywood. The Dirty Dozen was among the few films that showed the contribution made by African-American soldiers, he said. White heroes played by John Wayne and other Hollywood stars had until now overshadowed the sacrifice of brave heroes of colour who laid down their lives for their country, he added.

“Here’s the paradox,” he said. “These African-American men wanted to fight against fascism in the name of democracy. At the same time, they were still second-class citizens.” Although Lee emphasised his respect for Eastwood as a film-maker, he claimed that the director had been told of the African-Americans who fought at Iwo Jima, and had chosen to ignore that “information”.

He said: “It’s not like he could say he didn’t know. It was a conscious decision not to have any black people.” Half an hour later, Eastwood was at the other end of La Croisette, giving his own press conference for his latest film, L’Échange (formerly The Changeling), the story of a woman, played by Angelina Jolie, who brought down a corrupt police department in 1920s Los Angeles.

Asked twice by The Times to respond to Lee’s criticism, Eastwood stared out into the audience as the compere refused to accept a question that did not relate to L’Échange. Later, his spokeswoman also declined to comment.

Miracle at St Anna, set in 1944, tells the story of four black Americans who find themselves trapped behind enemy lines and separated from their unit after one of them risks his life to save an Italian boy.

The film is based on the 2002 book by the bestselling African-American novelist James McBride. The village in the title, Sant’Anna di Stazzema, was the site of a massacre by SS troops who rounded up and slaughtered 560 civilians.

Lee’s film reflects the pain felt by the segregated black soldiers. One says in the film: “I love Italians. I ain’t a zzzzzz here. I’m just me.” Lee added: “At the beginning of the war, black soldiers did not fight. They cooked, cleaned and drove trucks. That was all they were allowed to do. There was a theory that the black soldiers would run. That was proven false.” Miracle at St Anna was a testament to brave men who fought for the country they loved.

Wearing a T-shirt promoting Barack Obama, he also spoke of the significance of the United States having a black American president one day. His great-grandmother was born a slave and would never have believed it.

Have it your way, at The King....or Queen?

Drag Queen Robs Burger King
Man Climbed In Takeout Window

POSTED: 9:13 am MDT May 16, 2008
UPDATED: 9:40 am MDT May 16, 2008

NEW ORLEANS -- A New Orleans Burger King recently got a visit from a drag queen with a gun, New Orleans television station WDSU reported.

Security cameras showed the man, wearing a dress with a revealing bust line and hair barrettes, climbed through the takeout window at a Burger King on May 11. He held the employees at gunpoint, demanded money, exited through the same drive-through window and drove away.

"By looking at the vehicle pull up, we can tell that's a pickup," WDSU crime and safety specialist Howard Robertson said. "And if you look at the rims -- you know that's not a Ford or GM. The other thing I wanted to look at was whether he got out the driver’s or passenger’s door to see if he had an accomplice, somebody who was driving his vehicle when he left. But he got out the driver's side."

Robertson said the thief is probably a genuine cross-dresser because his necklace matched the dress, his nails appeared to be painted and the wig was well made.

"Most of the time when somebody puts on a wig they're just trying to hide their identity by putting on something like a Halloween mask, but he's pretty," Robertson said.

Robertson said he was surprised the thief didn't cover his face, though he said it doesn't matter in this case.

"There's a strong possibility that this person is a cross-dresser and someone in that community will know this guy, especially if they see him on the TV, someone will know him," Robertson said.

Police said the suspect was about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighed about 180 pounds

Kids these days (nonchalant tone)

Parents in the Memphis, Tennessee area are in an uproar, following the emergence of a disturbing dance video allegedly recorded by Mitchell High School students.
Local CBS affiliate News Channel 3 (WREG-TV) has launched an investigation into a video which appeared on YouTube approximately one month ago titled “Mitchell High School Memphis… Rape Dat Ho.”

The clip appears to have been recorded on school property, and shows at least seven students engaged in simulated sexual acts, which one parent referred to as “sex with clothes on.”

While the students are dancing, others can be seen and heard in the background chanting a chorus of “Rape Dat Ho.”

“I would first like to apologize to the Memphis community for the embarrassment these videos have caused,” said Principal John Ware.

A second tape has also surfaced, featuring students simulating sex during a school talent show, as administrators casually walk by, without stopping the teens.

“I take full responsibility for the inappropriate content in one of the acts,” Principal Ware stated, “We should have taken immediate action and ended the performance.”

Memphis County School spokesperson Staci Franklin has promised an investigation to determine the students’ identities.

“We’ve had an opportunity to look at the video and just to make it very clear, that behavior that we saw on the tape is very disturbing,” Franklin told Channel 3. “However, in just what we’ve seen today, we cannot clearly identify that those are our students and that it is one of our schools.”

Franklin promised that if any students from her school district participated in the video, they would be disciplined accordingly.

News 3 also attempted to contact the individual responsible for the YouTube post, which has since been flagged as offensive and removed from the site.

That individual responded “I’m sorry, but I refuse to give any information about the video. The video was just for fun.”

Food Costs Jump Most in 18 Years
Prices of Other Goods Rose Less Than Forecast in April

By Howard Schneider
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, May 15, 2008; D01

Rising global grain prices helped spark the largest increase in monthly food costs in nearly 20 years, as consumers paid more in April for cereals and baked goods, and the dairy, meat and other animal products that rely on feedstocks, the government reported yesterday.

Food prices have risen at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 6.1 percent past three months. The 0.9 percent rise from March to April was the biggest one-month advance since January 1990, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The rise in prices covered all categories of food but was most severe among such staples as grains and oils -- goods where inflation has touched off food riots in some less developed countries and led to concerns about shortages.

The costs of cereal and bakery products increased 1.4 percent from March to April and have risen at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of nearly 20 percent in the past three months. Prices for fats and oils jumped more than 5 percent in April, on a seasonally adjusted annual basis, and have increased more than 26 percent in the past three months. Prices for sugars and sweets increased more than 10 percent during that same period.

The jump in food prices, along with a steady rise in the cost of gasoline, clouded an inflation report that otherwise contained good news for policymakers.

Overall inflation remained tame in April, increasing by a less-than-expected 0.2 percent. Excluding food and energy prices, so-called core inflation increased just 0.1 percent, or about 2.3 percent on an annualized basis.

The Federal Reserve and other economic policymakers watch inflation closely, and the monthly data on price increases has taken on added importance following a recent round of interest rate reductions. The Fed has slashed rates to try to stimulate investment and spending and stave off a possible recession, but some members remain concerned that any extra spending could fuel inflation.

Although the overall report was "a pleasant surprise," as one analyst said, the persistent increase in food and energy prices has taken a toll on consumer attitudes and pocketbooks -- a concern because consumer spending accounts for about two-thirds of economic activity. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, for example, also reported yesterday that average inflation-adjusted weekly earnings fell 0.5 percent in April, as a slight rise in wages was offset by price increases and a drop in the number of hours worked.

Along with food, rising gas prices have caused concern that consumers will have to shift their dollars toward staples and spend less elsewhere.

Although energy prices in April were flat overall, that was in part due to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' practice of adjusting data to account for seasonal fluctuations. In this case, gas prices usually rise this time of year, and recent increases in prices at the pump were in line with what was expected, a Bureau of Labor Statistics spokesman said.

Excluding the seasonal adjustment, gas prices rose about 4.2 percent over the month.

The April inflation report, taken as a whole, "will help alleviate some of the Fed's concerns over an uncertain inflation outlook," Kenneth Beauchemin, an analyst with the Global Insight consulting firm, said in an e-mail. "Nevertheless, plenty of risk remains," as rising energy prices also force food prices higher, requiring consumers to spend more on basic goods, Beauchemin wrote. "To what extent, and when, the energy price onslaught embeds itself into core consumer prices, is an open question."

Crude oil is trading around $125 a barrel, an issue expected to be discussed when President Bush meets Saudi King Abdullah this week.

At least half of the deal will be in stock. 50 Cent will be one of the largest shareholders of News Corp. when the deal is done. Some of the terms of the proposed deal include:

While nothing has been finalized, the deal is scheduled to go into effect in 2009 , after 50 Cent and G-Unit fulfill their album requirements with Interscope Records

All I can say is WOW!!!!!

$1 here, do I hear $2?

A JEALOUS husband who accused his wife of having an affair with a workmate took the ultimate online revenge - by placing her for sale on eBay.

The British man evicted his wife from their marital home, then advertised her on the internet site for just over $1m.

On the site Paul Osborn, 44, offers up wife Sharon saying he's putting his “cheating, lying, adulterous slag of a wife” to the highest bidder.

The site has been inundated with enquiries with users forwarding the link worldwide.

But Sharon, 43, denies an affair and British police are now investigating Paul for harassment.

Traffic inspector Paul heard rumours in March that railways manager Sharon, his wife of 24 years, was having an affair with a man at work.

He told Britain's The Sun newspaper: “I started checking her emails and I realised the rumours were true. They had been discussing their sex life together and making plans for the future.

“I was absolutely destroyed. I gathered all her stuff in bags and dumped it in the drive.”

Three weeks ago, Sharon pleaded for Paul to take her back. She moved back in, but two weeks later, Paul was again convinced she was cheating.

Paul said: “In a fit of rage I put the advert on eBay. I later took it off because I realised it wasn’t the right thing to do. I was just so angry.”

But Sharon had already made a complaint to police who today confirmed they were investigating, saying: “Statements have been taken from two people. ”

You mad???

FOXSexpert: 10 Sex Mistakes Women Make

Tuesday, May 13, 2008
By Yvonne K. Fulbright

You wanted it. So I’m giving it to you. When “The Top 10 Mistakes Men Make” ran a couple of weeks ago, readers were like: “Fair enough. But what about the mistakes women make?”

No worries, we’re not leaving the ladies off the hook. From getting sloppy with seduction to carnal constraints, women, too, make some errors with the erotic.

These are just some of them ...

1. Trading in Marilyn for Mommy.
Motherhood should not make you celibate. Instead, you need to see yourself as a hot mama, switching on your Marilyn Monroe persona the second you get your lover alone. For your sake, for your family’s sake, you need to temporarily forget that you’re known as an asexual “mommy” most of the day. You need to nurture your sex life with as much zest as you put into your childcare. Happy parents make for happy families.

2. Being unresponsive in the sack.
Most of us don’t like to have sex with a corpse. Don’t just lie there ... Move! Make noise. Do anything but play dead! If you want your lover to keep coming back, you need to go beyond the missionary position. You need to communicate your needs — give instructions. Even better, check in with him: Is this O.K.? Do you want more? Be eager to please and to be pleased!

3. Forgetting to stay feminine.
Between major weight gain, bodily functions, and divulging daily care habits, a lot of women fail to remain branded in their men's brains as sexy. While self-care and what we do in the loo is nothing to be ashamed of, keep it in the bathroom. Don’t talk about shaving, your period, your last bowel movement, etc. Strive to stay trim and look your best, and apparently effortlessly at that. While he wants you to be the girl-next-door in so many ways, he also wants to eternally see you as his sex goddess.

4. Judging his porn pleasuring.
Unless you’ve been replaced by his passion for pornography, don’t give him a guilt trip for it. Many men enjoy different forms of erotica, often using such visuals to become aroused and, quite frankly, to remain sexually interested in their current partner. Instead of seeing his Playboy or Penthouse as a threat, see it as an enhancement — possibly even one you can share. Such visuals are meant to keep the relationship riveting. Don’t let them create a rift.

5. Being afraid to talk dirty.
The occasional potty mouth can be a passion-inducer. So don’t be shy! Learn to talk dirty. I’m not saying sound like a trucker (unless that’s your thing). But don’t be afraid to get a little filthy. Who knows? You might deserve a good spanking for talking like that.

6. Being unable to own your body.
Big or small, short or tall, what men find a turn-on more than anything is how a woman carries herself — her confidence. If you’re not owning your body, if you’re not embracing your figure and sexual nature, you fail to flaunt one of your biggest assets — you. So walk around naked. Have sex with the lights on. Learn to embrace the skin you’re in. This will help you boost your sex comfort and his.

7. Trash-talking other women.
Sure, you think she looks like a prostitute. But guess what? He does too — and is most likely loving it. Putting down other women in front of him serves as no more than a sign of insecurity. And that makes you unattractive. Rather than worry about what another gal looks like, focus your energies on keeping his eyes on you.

8. Assuming you'll be monogamous.
You’re not monogamous till you have the talk. Having sex is no guarantee of anything, including reciprocal feelings, love, and a future. So don’t make any assumptions. Be honest about what you want. Don’t use sex manipulatively. Head games should stay below the belt.
Finally, our last two are sex tips. You don't want to make THESE mistakes, either:

9. Ignoring his nipples.
While known as a "girl-thing," nipples can be his thing too. Many men have sensitive nipples. In fact, some men have nipples that are more sensitive than their lovers'. So practice some amorous affirmative action. Go ahead and explore the erotic potential this hot spot holds for him.

10. Using too much teeth.
When it comes to oral fixations, this feast should not involve fangs. Teeth scraping is not allowed.

Boy Returns Lost Bank Deposit Bag Of More Than $100,000

What would you do if you found $108,000? A 17-year-old boy from Cedar City was put in this exact situation. He didn’t just find money, he found himself in a moral dilemma.

Jared Gray works as a part-time janitor at Southern Utah University. Weeks ago, he came across a bank deposit bag, lying on the ground at the University. Jared looked around, but no one could be seen.

He could easily have taken the money and no one would have ever known.

“That definitely went through my mind,” said Jared. “I knew what I had to do. I figured I should return the money.”

Jared called his uncle who works at the college. His uncle called a police officer and later, every last dollar was returned.

To give some perspective, here are a few things you could buy with $108,000:

-Three loaded H-3 Hummers.
-Seven custom Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
-43 Large Flat Panel HD-TV’s
-Your own personal jet.

…just to name a few.

“It just wouldn’t have felt right to take it,” said Jared.

An S.U.U. spokesperson said that Jared’s honesty is more than they’d expect from a 17-year-old.

“It’s a huge thing for someone to turn in $108,000 that they find laying around,” said Jennifer Burt.

But Jared didn’t even think twice.

“I’d return it again, without a problem,” Jared said.

Jared said that the campus police gave him $20 for his honesty and a campus cashier made him cookies.

HOOKER'S LAID BARE ON SHOW - MA RECOGNIZES 'HIDDEN' DAUGHTER
By CATHY BURKE

April 22, 2008 --

So much for the safety of shadows.
A Manhattan hooker interviewed by Diane Sawyer for an ABC special on prostitution was busted by her mom - who recognized her daughter, despite the network's efforts to disguise her.
"I'm mentioning the interview now because last night, I learned that my parents tuned in to ABC that fateful day and promptly recognized me, in spite of the silhouette, the altered voice, the distorted profile, the vague and thoroughly dated details," wrote the hooker, who blogs on wordpress.com under the name "debauchette."
"I received an e-mail from my mother saying that she knows. She saw the interview and decided to sit on this knowledge until she could see it again, and then she decided to contact me."
The blogger refused an interview with The Post.
"Unfortunately, while my mother knows about my other life, I still worry about being outed altogether and I don't think I have the strength for that risk right now," she wrote. "It's been a rough few days."
Debauchette signed her polite refusal "Jane."
The unapologetic hooker quotes her mom's distressed e-mail response - "I have to say that it wasn't a complete surprise . . . But I was in a state of denial." - and wrote that she was relieved that at least her mother wasn't angry or disgusted.
The unfortunate revelation didn't quell her passion for the job, however.
"Later in the day, I saw Gabriel . . . He told me to take my clothes off, and this made me smile . . . While we undressed, I thought about how good this is," she blogged.
Although ABC News caught some flak for its interview techniques during last week's debate between Democrats Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, there was no hint of anger in debauchette's blog about Sawyer's grilling.
Not that she felt she won over the anchorwoman.
"Sawyer asked me about preserving the 'sanctity' of my body, as though sex without the imprimatur of love were inherently degrading," the blogger chides.
"I feel like I can only sigh, because I doubt I can begin to penetrate the many layers of misunderstandings and preconceptions, let alone that relentless working assumption that a woman's value as a human being decreases as she gains sexual experience."
A spokeswoman for Sawyer said she could "neither confirm nor deny" the identity of the blogger as the sex worker interviewed for the special, which aired in the wake of the prostitution scandal that forced former Gov. Eliot Spitzer out of office.

BB Curve for Vz soon?

Turns out the Glyde's gonna have to share the spotlight a bit when it launches early next month. The Curve 8330 has been confirmed by our sources for a May 9 release through Verizon's B2B, web, and telesales channels, followed by a May 12 launch in "all channels" (which we assume means you'll be able to walk into any old store and grab one). It'll go for $319.99 before $50 rebate on a two-year contract, ranging all the way up to $439.99 if you have no interest in signing your name on the dotted line. 'Course, Sprint told us point-blank that it'd be launching the Curve in April and that didn't exactly pan out, so we recommend exercising some restraint here until your jaded heart actually spies it on Verizon's site -- or better yet, on a store shelf.

Gone Fishin 2007

A day-in-the-life doc on Kobe Bryant

I'm kinda upset that I'm late on this article, even though I knew about the documentary considering I catch EVERY Laker game...shame on me.

With Spike Lee in the house wearing his signature dark blue NY baseball hat, you'd think the Lakers were playing the Knicks instead of the Spurs. But Lee's entourage of more than 40 crewmembers, made it pretty clear that he was up to something more work-related. Turns out, he was filming a day-in-the-life doc on Kobe Bryant.

During the game, Lee stood courtside, grasping tightly to the small handheld camera in his right hand and peering up through his tortoise-shell rectangular glasses, watching every moment of LA's eventual 106-85 blowout over San Antonio, a victory that essentially secured them the top spot in the West.

Post game, Lee and his cameramen set up for the final scene of the day: "the walk".

"We've got to get him when he comes out," Lee directs. This shot will trace the long walk Bryant takes after his press conference, where he'll greet his family and make his way down the hall from the locker room to his car. It's not like Kobe will be surprised by the melee. Lee's been following Bryant around all day with his crew, which is now in position.

As they wait, Tim Duncan walks by, with his head down, clearly distraught over the loss. "What's up T?" says Lee. For the first time since the game turned in the second half, Duncan's face lights up with a huge smile.

"Hey man! How ya been?" he says.

"Staying busy," Lee replies.

A few seconds later Kobe emerges. "Here we go," Lee says, as the cameramen straighten up. Bryant greets his wife, Vanessa, who is sitting on a bench outside of the locker room with their two young daughters, Natalia and Gianna. The girls hold posters they've made that say, 'Daddy 4 MVP.'

A guy on a camera dolly is pulled backwards as Bryant walks through the hall doors, holding Gianna in his hands, with Vanessa next to him in black 4-inch heels, grasping her Louis Vuitton purse in one hand and Natalia in the other. Bryant signs some autographs for fans waiting in the hall and poses for a few pics as the camera crew jogs backwards. While Kobe and Vanessa pretend not to notice the 18 cameras surrounding them, 23-month old Gianna says, "I'm scared," to her dad. He tries to soothe her by singing Michael Jackson's "Beat It."

In the hall, they run into Tony Parker then continue "the walk" to Bryant's white Range Rover, which is waiting near the exit. All the while Lee's crew is rolling. Finally, with Bryant in the drivers seat, Vanessa rolls down her window and smiles as the car pulls out of Staples Center.

End scene.

Additionally, an interview with Spike Lee!

What made you decide to do a-day-in-the-life-of as opposed to a longer documentary?

I saw a film when I was in Cannes three years ago called Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait and in this game all the cameras focus on Zidane. I loved it and said, this might work better for basketball. Kobe is the first person I thought of so I got him a copy of the film. It was just a matter of figuring out the schedule. We had a lot of red tape; the league, the Lakers; I mean actually everybody was wonderful. Phil Jackson gave us access he's never ever done before.

What kind of access?

We were in the locker room when the press is not there. Kobe thinks of the locker room as a sanctuary. It's sacred. I would really like to thank Dr. Buss, Phil and the coaching staff because they went on like we weren't there, which is what we wanted.

How did you prepare for this?

We've had several meetings with all the operators. Friday we watched that Zidane film.

As a crew?

Yeah, we all love basketball and we know the game. Eighteen cameras were strategically placed. And it's too bad the game was a blowout but I still think it's going to be wonderful.

You were out there on the court with your own little hand-held camera.

The Spike cam!

You guys got here at six in the morning.

You have to film it all, you know? It's a lot of variables but I really trust my people and if anything happened we have the cameras and we're going to be in the action. Plus we had two still photographers.

Would you call this a documentary? It's kind of like a one-day documentary.

You know, it's a documentary, it's a portrait, I don't really want to get hung-up on what to label it as but I think it's going to be a good piece of work.

What are you trying to show in this film? Are you trying to highlight some of the misconceptions about Kobe or do you have a certain message?

No, this is dealing with the game. The game and the player. This specific day: April, 13th, 2008. Staples Center. Los Angeles, California.

What made you choose this game?

Oh, this is a very important game and next to the last game of the season. It's a very important game for the seedings and this was the soonest we could get. And also we knew that this was not going to happen during the playoffs. In the playoffs all things change.

You're like the biggest Knicks fan there is. Are any of the Knicks players going to be a little upset at you this?

Well, I don't think we'd get the money [to make a film about] Nate Robinson (laugh). Even though Nate's my man. No, Kobe's one of the greats of the game. We're just happy that this worked out.

Are we going to see a lot more sports films from you?

I'd like to, you know? Sports is better than movies, because with sports you don't know the outcome.

Me need

At the request of Paul Smith's Japanese line, graphically liberal clothing brand Tonite was asked to create a collection of pieces for the famed British designer. The theme of the collection, "Robinstein Frankencrusoe" is a relationship of two fictional characters, Robinson Crusoe and Frankenstein. In story which plays out like the following, the exiled Frankenstein makes his way onto a boat in hopes of a new life only to be ship wrecked on an island with the sole inhabitant being Robinson Crusoe. Together their friendship manifests itself in the Robinstein Frankencrusoe collection with a surf meets punk style. This capsule is slated only for a Paul Smith Japan release, however some pieces will make it to the Paul Smith at Borough Market retail outlet in London.
